Enhancing River Tourism in Paraguay: A Strategic Approach

Promoting river tourism, and improving navigational safety in Paraguay, were central themes focused on during the strategic meetings between the Merchant Navy with the General Directorate of Tourism Management of Senatur, General Naval Prefecture, Chamber of Merchants of Ñeembucú and Victor Gamero, port authority of Spain.

These initiatives seek to strengthen the tourist infrastructure and guarantee a safe environment for river navigation in Paraguay, reaffirming its position as an attractive and safe destination for both visitors and sailors.

The director of the Merchant Navy, Patricio Ortega, explained that they seek to advance by implementing specific regulations adjusted to the situation of Paraguayan rivers.

He mentioned that this includes the regulation of boarding and disembarking points, the viability of ship prototypes, navigation schedules, tourist destinations and associated costs.

He also reported that the priority areas are the Asunción metropolitan area, Alto Paraná, Ñeembucú and the Chaco area near the Carmelo Peralta bioceanic bridge.

Regarding safety in navigation, special emphasis was placed on working closely with the General Naval Prefecture, to adequately manage disused or sunken vessels.

These meetings marked a crucial advance in collaboration between tourism authorities, investors and regulatory bodies.

Participants included Carmen Silva, General Director of Tourism Management of Senatur; Albino Bogarin Flor, General Naval Prefect; Victor Gamero, representative of the Port Authority of Spain and Abg. Jorge Gutierrez, head of the Chamber of Merchants of Ñeembucú.
