Paraguayan driver Joshua Dürksen achieved a historic weekend at the Monza circuit in Italy, securing his first-ever double victory in a Formula 2 race weekend. The Invicta Racing driver won the Sprint race on Saturday, 5 September 2026, and returned to the top step of the podium in the Feature Race on Sunday: Dürksen made history.
The remarkable achievement concluded with an unexpected and dramatic turn. Moments after Dürksen crossed the finish line to claim victory, his vehicle caught fire. The driver had to quickly exit the cockpit while still celebrating his triumph.
A hard-fought feature race
Victory in the Feature Race was not straightforward. The lead changed hands several times during the opening laps, with Duerksen initially taking charge before trading positions with his teammate, the Brazilian driver Rafael Camara.
The mandatory pit stops proved decisive in shaping the outcome of the competition. Following the stops, Dürksen definitively reclaimed the lead and held it to secure the win. Camara finished second, completing a one-two for Invicta Racing, while Noel León of Campos Racing took the third podium position.
An unbelievable feeling for the Paraguayan driver
With his two victories at Monza, Duerksen achieved the milestone of a double win in a single Formula 2 weekend for the first time in his career. After the race, the Paraguayan driver expressed his excitement about the result.
“It is an incredible feeling. I still cannot believe that I have won both races this weekend in Monza; a clean sweep of victories. It is something truly incredible,” he stated.
Dürksen also highlighted the special significance of competing at the iconic Italian circuit. “Monza is a very special place. It has so much history. I love this place, I love the Monza area, I love Italy; it has been an incredible experience. It is a dream come true and I am very grateful to God for having this opportunity.”
Dürksen makes history after Sprint race victory
On Saturday, Dürksen produced his first outstanding performance at Monza to win the Formula 2 Sprint race after starting seventh. As he has so often this season, the Paraguayan delivered a commanding drive. He carved his way through the field, then held the lead with authority to take a convincing victory.
The result is his third Sprint win of the season, underlining his status as one of the category’s leading drivers.
Impact on team standings
The one-two finish in the Feature Race allowed Invicta Racing to significantly increase its points total in the teams’ championship. Campos Racing continues to lead with 291 points, but Invicta Racing has now reached 244 points.
MP Motorsport holds third place with 184 points, followed by Rodin Motorsport with 180 and ART Grand Prix with 151. The next round of the Formula 2 season will take place in Madrid. The championship will hold its tenth event of the 2026 season between 11 and 13 September at the new circuit in the Spanish capital.
