Paraguay has announced the hosting of the Ironman 70.3 Asunción at El Delta in Nueva Asunción, Chaco’i. Organised by Rebelocity under licence from The IRONMAN Group, the competition combines swimming, cycling and running. The event will place the triathlon in Paraguay on the international sporting calendar while attracting athletes and visitors to Greater Asunción.
The announcement follows the previous edition of Ironman 70.3 in Paraguay, held on 11 October 2026 in the city of Encarnación. The upcoming race will take place on 11 July 2027 at El Delta in Nueva Asunción, marking the competition’s next edition in the country.
A demanding international challenge
The Ironman 70.3 covers 70.3 miles, equivalent to approximately 113 kilometres across three disciplines. Athletes must complete a 1.9-kilometre swim, a 90-kilometre cycling course and a 21.1-kilometre run. Together, these stages test endurance, pacing and preparation, making the competition a demanding challenge for experienced triathletes.
Furthermore, athletes can compete individually or form relay teams of two or three participants. Competitors must be at least 18 years old on race day, according to the official event website. This format allows participants to approach the challenge individually or share the three disciplines with teammates.
El Delta welcomes the competition
El Delta, located in Nueva Asunción, will provide the setting for the 2027 event. The venue connects to the capital through the Héroes del Chaco Bridge, placing the competition within reach of Greater Asunción. According to the organisers, the location sits approximately five minutes from downtown Asunción.
Moreover, El Delta has experience hosting international triathlon competitions. Its previous role in the World Triathlon World Cup provides a foundation for another major sporting event.
What the event means for Paraguay
The upcoming triathlon in Paraguay offers an opportunity to showcase the country to visiting athletes and spectators. International competitors often travel with family members, friends and support teams. Their arrival could increase demand for accommodation, restaurants, transport services and travel agencies throughout Greater Asunción.
Consequently, local businesses may benefit from additional spending before, during and after race weekend. Visitors may also discover Paraguay’s cultural attractions, gastronomy and other tourism offerings. However, the scale of the economic impact will depend on visitor numbers, spending patterns and the event’s final arrangements.
Registration and what comes next
Rebelocity has opened a free pre-registration process through its official website. Pre-registration does not guarantee a race entry, but it provides priority access before general registration opens. The organisers initially offered special launch pricing to the first 200 pre-registered athletes, subject to a limited registration window.
Athletes can check the official event website for updates on registration and participation. Organisers will announce entry prices when general sales open. Further information about the course and event arrangements is also expected as preparations progress towards July 2027.
Paraguay on the international triathlon calendar
The triathlon in Paraguay will bring an internationally recognised endurance competition to Greater Asunción. The event could increase the country’s visibility among athletes and sporting communities while creating opportunities for local businesses.
Ultimately, the triathlon in Paraguay represents an opportunity to expand the country’s experience hosting international sporting events. Its impact will depend on successful organisation, participation and the experience offered to competitors and spectators. The race is scheduled for 11 July 2027, with further event details expected from the organisers.
