The Asunción Municipal Chamber Orchestra (OCMA) will present its fifth concert of the 2026 season, titled “By and for the Youth,” on Wednesday, 9 September, at 20:00 at the “Ignacio A. Pane” Municipal Theatre. Admission is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of maestro Miguel Ángel Echeverría, the concert will pay tribute to Paraguay’s youth while celebrating the arrival of spring. It will also give emerging musicians the opportunity to perform as soloists alongside a professional orchestra. This will support their artistic development and provide valuable experience on stage.
Showcasing emerging talent
The evening will feature several young guest artists, including vocalist Giuliana Barrios and violinists Samira Belén Martínez Cheretti and Paulo Ferreira Da Costa. The concert will offer them an opportunity to showcase their skills in a professional setting.
Two choirs will also take to the stage. The Voces de la Mater Choir from Tuparenda, directed by Alejandro Alcaraz, will perform alongside the Fusión Musical Choir, under the direction of Javier Alcaraz.
A programme of classical and national music
The programme will combine works from the classical repertoire with some of Paraguay’s best-known compositions. Among the featured pieces is Antonio Vivaldi’s renowned “Concerto in A minor for 2 Violins.”
The concert will also celebrate Paraguay’s musical heritage with performances of “Mis noches sin ti,” “13 Tuyuti,” “Ñemity,” “Paraguaya rohayhu,” “Trasnochados espinales,” and “Paisajes de mi tierra,” among other works.
Supporting young musicians
The concert is organised by the General Directorate of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Asunción and the Asunción Philharmonic Society, with the support of the Itaú Foundation and Petrobras.
Beyond the performance itself, the initiative seeks to encourage outstanding young instrumentalists and orchestra conductors by giving them the opportunity to take their first steps as soloists with the Asunción Municipal Chamber Orchestra. In this way, the concert aims to contribute to their artistic training and professional development.
