April 2026 marked the official inauguration of the second Care Centre for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Paraguay’s Department of Caaguazú, located in the town of Juan Eulogio Estigarribia. The new Space for Early Stimulation of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder contributes to a total of 20 services established across 13 health regions nationwide. The opening of the Campo 9 Autism Care Centre is reflecting an expansion of coverage and access to specialised care.
Paraguay is divided into 18 health regions. The regions are generally aligned with its departments and the capital. The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare coordinates and delivers healthcare services. Departments such as Alto Paraná and Itapúa already have their own specialised centres, highlighting gradual improvements in nationwide service distribution.
Campo 9 Autism Care Centre
“Today we are not only inaugurating a physical space, but we are also opening doors to opportunities, rights, and more dignified and timely care for our children,” the Health Minister said. He also added that new centres are planned for Canindeyú and Ñeembucú in the near future.
The Campo 9 Autism Care Centre operates Monday through Friday, from 07:00 to 19:00. The facility offers services including speech therapy, occupational therapy, and early stimulation. Furthermore, the centre offers psychology, psychopedagogy, inclusive dentistry, nutrition, and child neurology services. Care will be available for children and adolescents between 6 months and 18 years old. Appointments can be scheduled via the Autism Centre WhatsApp or in person at the centre.
A ₲70 million investment
In conjunction with the opening, an investment was made through the Directorate of Oral Health in support of dental care initiatives. This allocation included a dental chair, equipment, instruments, and supplies, totaling ₲70 million (approximately US$11,000) which the Care Centre will use.
The expansion of these services reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Paraguay’s public health system and improve access to specialised care for children with ASD and their families across Paraguay.
