Silvio Pettirossi International Airport has experienced a significant rise in passenger traffic during the first two months of 2026. Between January and February, the airport recorded a total of 252,211 travellers. This number represents an increase of nearly 40,000 passengers compared with the same period in 2025. The National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC) reported that this growth equates to an 18.09% rise. A percentage that highlights a steady recovery and expansion in Paraguay’s air transport sector.
Strong start to the year
January proved particularly strong for Silvio Pettirossi Airport, with 132,398 passengers passing through the terminal. This marked an 18.7% increase compared with January 2025. February also saw substantial growth, recording 119,813 travellers. The amount is 17.3% higher than in the second month of the previous year. These figures suggest that the upward trend in passenger numbers is being sustained, reflecting both increased domestic travel and growing international connections.
The airport’s performance in early 2026 builds on a record-breaking year in 2025, when Silvio Pettirossi International Airport handled a total of 1,285,623 passengers. This represented the highest passenger volume in the airport’s history and underscored its role as Paraguay’s primary international gateway. Airlines serving the airport have reported higher seat occupancy rates and increased demand for flights to regional and global destinations.
Looking Ahead
Industry experts suggest that passenger growth is likely to continue throughout 2026, driven by tourism, business travel, and the gradual expansion of international flight routes. DINAC has stated that the airport remains committed to improving infrastructure and passenger services to maintain a smooth travel experience. With the sustained rise in traffic, Silvio Pettirossi International Airport is positioned to strengthen Paraguay’s connectivity and support further growth in the aviation sector.
Overall, the latest figures confirm a positive outlook for air travel in Paraguay. Passengers and airlines alike are benefiting from enhanced services and connectivity, which signal a promising start to the year for the country’s main international airport.
