The Margaret Knight American Corner has announced the opening of registration for two free virtual English clubs: a Reading Club and a Conversation Club. Both initiatives aim to strengthen language skills while promoting cultural exchange in an accessible online format. The six-week programmes are designed for learners with an intermediate or advanced level of English. Selected applicants will receive a confirmation email with access details for the sessions.
Reading Club: Literature and discussion in English
The Reading Club invites participants to explore texts, share ideas, and engage in thoughtful discussion. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 18:00 to 19:00 and will take place entirely online. Organisers describe the club as a collaborative space where participants can improve reading comprehension and spoken fluency at the same time. Through guided reading and group debate, attendees will practise expressing opinions, analysing themes, and expanding vocabulary. Those interested can join by completing the registration form.
The initiative is open to individuals aged 15 and above who demonstrate an intermediate or advanced command of English. Participants are expected to show genuine interest in reading and to commit to attending weekly meetings. Under the motto “We read, we discuss, and we connect in English”, the programme seeks to build confidence while fostering meaningful exchange among readers.
Conversation Club: Real practice, real interaction
Alongside the Reading Club, the Conversation Club will also begin on 24 February. Meetings will take place on Wednesdays, with time slots assigned according to availability indicated in the registration form. This club focuses on practical communication through real conversations and interactive activities. The goal is to help participants gain fluency and confidence in everyday contexts while engaging in intercultural dialogue.
Applicants must follow the Margaret Knight American Corner on social media, have access to a computer and a stable internet connection, and commit to attending one session per week. By offering these free virtual English clubs, the American Corner continues to expand opportunities for English learning and cross-cultural exchange in Paraguay.
For those seeking more in-person language practice, Spanglish Social’s monthly Saturday meet-ups in Asunción also offer a relaxed space to connect and strengthen your bilingual skills.
