People Of Asunción #6, Lety Rodríguez From Argentina: “I Have Found The Most Hardworking People Here”

People from every corner of the globe are drawn to Asunción, where Paraguay’s laid-back capital has quietly become a melting pot of cultures, ideas, and ambition. Each Tuesday evening from 18:00 to 21:00, digital nomads, expats, and friendly locals come together at the ever-popular English networking event organised by The Asunción Times. Held in a different charming bar or restaurant across the city every week, these gatherings offer the perfect blend of Paraguayan warmth and international energy. In this “People of Asunción” series, we introduce the inspiring individuals who make this scene so uniquely alive. In #6: Lety Rodríguez From Argentina.

Meet Lety

Lety Rodríguez, officially Leticia (39), is from Buenos Aires, although she lived most of her life in Venezuela. She later moved to Europe, and when she returned, she moved between Argentina, Venezuela, and Paraguay.

How long have you been in Paraguay?

“I have been living here since 2017. The first time I came here was in 2014, and Paraguay was very different from what it is now. I love what Paraguay has become.”

What are you doing in Paraguay?

“I work in a third-party company that depends on a telecommunications company. I do installations and technical support for the company.”

What is your favourite place in Asunción and why?

“It is very hard to choose, because Asunción is very beautiful everywhere. I really like the Villa Morra area because of its buildings, cafés, and the number of places to go. I also like downtown, Asunción’s historical centre, because of the contrast between the old and the new. And right now, they are remodelling everything, and it is looking really nice. I really hope they can do something with the old buildings so that they are preserved for the future.”

What is your favourite place outside Asunción and why?

“That is an even more difficult question. I think that, if I have to choose one place, it would be San Bernardino. I like it because it is away from the city and you can have your own bubble there. There are other places like Areguá, which I really like. Also Saltos del Monday, Paraguay’s waterfalls, I find very beautiful and is one of my favourite places.”

What do you love most about Paraguay?

“The people. People make the difference. When outsiders come, they fall in love with the people. They are so friendly and welcoming. Also, I have found the most hardworking people I have ever met here.”

If you moved away tomorrow, what would you absolutely take with you from Paraguay?

“The experience of interacting with the people. They are really open, always with a smile. They ask how you are, welcome you into their homes, and offer you something to eat. People are very warm.”
