On Friday, 10 April 2026, Argentinian guitarist Lorenzo Recalde stepped onto the Jockey Club stage in Asunción. Performing in the pre-show for Ricky Martin alongside singer Willian, he delivered a moment that marked both recognition and growth. Having relocated to Paraguay in 2002, Recalde represents a growing wave of regional artists shaping the local scene. With over two decades in music, his journey reflects persistence, adaptability, and a deep passion for performance.
From Argentina to Asunción: a musical journey

Recalde began his musical journey at a young age, inspired by his sister’s piano studies. “I started in music when I was young, following in the footsteps of my sister,” he explains to The Asunción Times. Born in Formosa, Argentina, his early influences were rooted in Argentine rock. He cites artists such as Fito Páez, Charly García, and Spinetta as key inspirations.
Over time, he transitioned from folk into rock, developing a versatile and dynamic style. However, a significant turning point came when he moved to Paraguay. “I realised I wanted to pursue it professionally when I moved to the city of Asunción,” he says, referring to his long-term connection with the capital. Since settling in Paraguay in 2002, he has become increasingly active in the local music scene.
Throughout his career, he has performed on major stages including Asuncionico, Reciclarte, Cosquín Rock, and Luna Park. These experiences, he notes, have been essential to his artistic growth. “All stages are important, and they always leave a mark,” Lorenzo Recalde added.
The Ricky Martin pre-show experience
The opportunity to perform before Ricky Martin came unexpectedly. Recalde received a call from Willian just days before the concert. “We had previously recorded a live session together, and the idea was to present part of that show.” As a result, preparation had to be swift and precise. Despite the scale of the event, Recalde approached it with enthusiasm. “I accepted immediately, because it was an excellent opportunity to promote our work.” Meanwhile, he emphasises the importance of readiness. “These opportunities arise at short notice, and if you are not prepared, you miss them.”
Sharing the stage with Willian carried a personal significance. “It felt like sharing with a brother,” Recalde says, highlighting their friendship. Additionally, the performance included DJ Hannell Recalde, creating a collaborative atmosphere.

Lorenzo Recalde behind the scenes
Performing at an international event revealed a new level of organisation and technical precision. Recalde is particularly struck by the coordination involved. “Everything is carefully planned, from lighting to sound and even pyrotechnics.” As a result, the production delivered what he described as a “world-class experience”.
Although he did not meet Ricky Martin personally, he appreciates the opportunity to witness the show. However, the emotional impact of performing remained strong. “There is always adrenaline, but once I step onto the stage, everything flows naturally.”
He also highlighted the importance of teamwork in events of this scale. Sound engineers, roadies, and audiovisual teams play a crucial role in ensuring a professional outcome.
“I want to continue making music for as long as I can”
Currently, Recalde is involved in several musical projects in Asunción. He performs with bands Entre Hojas and Tekove, while also collaborating with artists such as Willian and Bárbara Cáceres. Additionally, he is working on a new album with Tekove and developing new material.
“I want to continue making music for as long as I can.” Rather than focusing on specific ambitions, he prioritises consistency and passion. Despite his extensive experience, his motivation remains grounded.
Reflecting on the pre-show, Lorenzo Recalde sees it as a sign of progress. “It means that we are doing things well,” he concluded. As a result, he plans to continue working with dedication, aiming for more opportunities on major stages in Paraguay and beyond.
