As the construction of the Bioceanic Bridge connecting Brazil and Paraguay comes to a close, a new bioceanic bridge addition to mobility starts. Earlier in April 2026, it was confirmed that 100% of the funding for the new international bridge linking Pozo Hondo, Paraguay, with Misión La Paz, Argentina will be provided by Paraguay. The project is expected to become a major infrastructure feat for the Paraguayan Chaco.
Chaco positioned for economic growth
The Boquerón region has long faced economic limitations due to finite modes of transit. The bridge will form a permanent cross-border connection. It is expected to improve mobility for freight and passengers while integrating more directly into regional supply routes.
Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña confirmed the financing plan during an official visit to the Chaco. He was accompanied also by the Minister for Public Works and Communications, Claudia Centurión, and other officials. “We are going to build and finance 100% of the bridge.” He described the project as a “transcendental” step for improving national connectivity and positioning Paraguay closer to Pacific trade markets. The project is being framed by the government as a catalyst for structural economic change in the Chaco. The announcement was made during an official visit to the Chaco region,
The bridge, along with ongoing works on the Bioceanic Road Corridor, is intended to convert the region into a logistics hub linking production zones with international trade routes. That shift is expected to have direct effects on agriculture, livestock, and industrial supply chains. President Peña emphasised that the bridge is a part of a wider development strategy. The plan includes neighboring countries, and he stated: “We believe in the development of Paraguay, but also of Argentina and Bolivia.”
New bioceanic bridge addition potential
By providing a fixed and reliable crossing point, the bridge will significantly reduce transport times. Additionally, logistics costs for goods moving through the Chaco region. This improvement is particularly consequential for exportation sectors, where delays and transport inefficiencies have historically limited potential trade competitiveness. Further integration into the Bioceanic Corridor could also mean expanded access to international markets
President Peña also stressed optimism about Paraguay’s development trajectory, saying: “We see opportunities and want to convey that we have a very promising future for everyone.”
Further development of the Chaco
Beyond local impact, the new bioceanic bridge addition is part of Paraguay’s effort to strengthen its role in regional logistics and trade networks. By improving connectivity across the Chaco, the government aims to reduce geographic isolation. At the same time, position the region as a functional corridor for international commerce. If completed as planned, the Pozo Hondo to Misión La Paz bridge would represent a structural shift in the Chaco’s economic geography.
