Paraguayan companies and investors are invited to participate in the Paraguay Country Presentation event in Genoa from 13 to 15 June 2026. Both countries seek to deepen economic cooperation and expand commercial opportunities in anticipation of the European Union-Mercosur agreement.
The business and institutional event will take place at the historic Palazzo Tursi. Government authorities, entrepreneurs, and investors from Paraguay and Italy are expected to attend the event. The programme will include institutional sessions, country presentations, and business meetings focused on trade, investment, and productive cooperation.
Focus on bilateral cooperation
According to Italian ambassador to Paraguay Marcello Fondi, the initiative represents a strategic platform for Italian companies and investors to learn more about Paraguay’s productive potential and competitive advantages. Fondi said the Country Presentation event comes at a particularly opportune time due to the new commercial prospects linked to the European Union-Mercosur agreement.
This deal is expected to strengthen economic relations between South America and Europe. He also noted that the presentation continues the political and economic dialogue established at the highest levels between Paraguay and Italy. It reflects a shared interest in building a sustained programme centred on integration, trade, and investment.
Paraguay’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, in coordination with the Italian Embassy in Paraguay, the Investment and Export Network (Rediex), and the Italian-Paraguayan Chamber of Commerce, are organising the event. Additional support comes from Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Trade Agency, the Liguria regional government, and the City of Genoa. The initiative is backed by both Paraguayan and Italian institutions.
Genoa’s historic role in global trade
Organisers of the Country Presentation event selected Genoa as the venue because of its historic importance as one of Europe’s most influential maritime and commercial cities. During the Middle Ages and Renaissance, Genoa emerged as one of the Mediterranean’s leading maritime republics. The city was and still plays a major role in European trade and finance. Genoa merchants and banking families helped expand commercial networks across Europe. The city’s fleets established trade routes linking Europe with North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
The city became known for its naval power, international influence, and strategic port. For centuries, it served as a gateway for goods entering European markets through Mediterranean trade routes. Today, the Port of Genoa remains Italy’s busiest commercial seaport. Additionally, it is one of Europe’s most significant logistics hubs, connecting European industries with international markets. Organisers said the city represents a combination of historical tradition, innovation, and global connectivity that aligns with the goals of the Paraguay Country Presentation.
