Following on from the success of Nihon Matsuri, an event called “Days of Japanese Culture” will take place at the Paraguayan-Japanese Center, fon Friday 18 and Saturday 19 October, from 10am to 7pm, with free admission.
The event will be held at the headquarters of the Paraguayan-Japanese Center, on near the intersection of the streets named Julio Correa and Domingo Portillo, and is organised by the Embassy of Japan, the Paraguayan-Japanese Center and the Paraguayan-Japanese Association.
Its objective is to create a space where the public can appreciate various aspects of Japanese culture through different activities, some of them with free access and others with prior arrangement.
Those wishing to participate in scheduled activities can do so through the Facebook page of the Embassy of Japan by completing an electronic registration form.
During the cultural day you can enjoy exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, talks, a variety of Japanese foods and artistic presentations of Shodo, Yosakoi Dance and Taiko in the pure style of Japanese culture, with totally free admission.
Days of Japanese Culture: Program of activities
On Friday 18th, demonstrations of Japanese cooking are scheduled from 10am to 12noon; Kokedama in the Handicraft Room from 3pm to 4pm ; and Chanoyu in the Japanese Room from 5:30pm to 6pm and from 6:30pm to 7pm.
On Friday and Saturday, exhibitions will also be held from 10am to 7pm, featuring Japanese crafts, bonsai (miniature trees), kokedama (potless plants), origami (paper folding art), as well as promotion of Japanese Government Scholarship programs.
There will also be books by Japanese authors, kimono dolls (traditional clothing) and models of Japanese temples and castles.
On Saturday 19th, from 10:30am to 7pm., ikebana (Japanese art of flower arrangement), as well as the Paraguay to Space Project Phase I and Phase II with the Paraguayan Space Agency.
Saturday’s program also includes demonstrations, workshops and talks on the Japanese art of flower arrangement (ikebana) at the main entrance of the Paraguayan Japanese Center, from 10:30am to 11am, and an origami workshop for children in the library, from 10:30am to 12noon, among other points of the program.
Artistic performances will also take place on Saturday. From 5:30pm to 6:30pm – Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) – Artist Shindo Horikawa; 6:30pm to 6:45pm – Yosakoi Dance – Gurpo Kosel and 18:50 to 19:05 – Taikp (Japanese drums) – Japan Bunka Taiko. All these activities will take place in the Amphitheatre, the organisers say.
