Tacopado

Tacopado: Mexican-Influenced Food In Puerto Iguazú

Each week, Tommy-Maurice is going to a different restaurant in Asunción. This week, it will be in Argentina, but very close to Paraguay. We will look at Tacopado, a Mexican-influenced restaurant in Puerto Iguazú’s centre.

Before this trip in early October, I had never been to this part of South America. I had never been to Ciudad del Este, to Brazil or Argentina. Being in the area, it was time to visit… and eat! It is a region with people from almost everywhere. From Asia to Europe, to Northern Africa, and other parts of the Americas. They are proud of their identity and show it by opening businesses, such as restaurants. While visiting Puerto Iguazú, I saw the beautiful and original building where the Tacopado is located, and I really needed to stop there.

Tacopado is a Mexican-influenced restaurant in the heart of Puerto Iguazú that offers food from Argentina and Mexico. They serve tacos, empanadas, nachos, hamburgers, steaks, fries, beers and other drinks. I took the steak fries. It was served with empanadas as an entrée. I ate that with an Argentinian beer. Everything was awesome. The empanadas were tasty, the steak was well-cooked and juicy, and the fries were crispy and salty. I highly recommend that you try the steak and, the restaurant. If you like this kind of food and live around or plan to travel to the region, you should try it.

As for the price, it is indeed higher, but not because it is a steak, solely because the restaurant is in Argentina. It cost around 122K Guaraníes for the empanadas, the steak, the fries, and the beer. It is around 16 American dollars or 15 euros. It is not costly, but you can have it cheaper in Paraguay. You can pay with your foreign bank cards. Not all the restaurants in the city core do accept them, but Tacopado does. I was there in the middle of the afternoon on a hot day, which meant I had more attention from the lovely employees as there were only a few clients. You should go at night if you want to live the full experience. Yes, the staff was great and even if they do not speak English, they will make the effort to understand you as much as possible. The establishment is well-maintained, and if you go, you really need to take a picture of the building, as it is one of the city’s attractions.

The restaurant is located on Avenida Misiones in downtown Puerto Iguazú. If you come from Paraguay and Brazil, you will be driving on Ruta 12. Do not forget to stop at the border with Argentina, you need to. The route merges with Avenida Victoria Aguirre. You need to turn right to go north towards the city core. On Aguirre, turn right on Avenida Brasil and find a parking spot. If you are coming by Uber, Bolt, regular taxi, or other means of transportation, they know where it is, as it is an institution in the city. The establishment is open from 10 in the morning to 2 in the morning the next day, each day of the week.
