The Municipality of Asunción has announced it will host two special astronomical observation events for the public. These sessions will take place at the River Ecological Park (Parque Ecológico del Río), near Asunción’s Botanical Garden and Zoo The initiative has been organised by the municipality’s General Directorate of Environmental Management. The free public astronomy event programme will feature a range of activities, including guided observations using telescopes, immersive 360° dome presentations, and a series of engaging scientific experiments.
Following a school-focused event on 29 May, 2026, a second session will be held for the general public. This will take place on Friday, 30 May, from 18:00 to 20:00.
An invitation to explore the cosmos
The events are designed to be accessible to students, teachers, and the general public, providing an opportunity to engage with science in an interactive setting. The core objective is to bring a deeper understanding of the universe to the community through direct, hands-on experiences.
These events represent a significant effort by the municipal authorities to foster scientific curiosity and provide educational resources outside of traditional classroom environments. Public invited to view the red planet

While open to all, this evening will have a special emphasis on the observation of the planet Mars. This provides a unique opportunity for attendees to view one of Earth’s closest planetary neighbours through high-quality equipment. The focus on Mars is particularly timely, as the planet continues to be a subject of intense scientific research and public fascination.
The 30 May session will also include the full suite of activities available on the previous day. This means that members of the public will likewise benefit from the 360° dome experiences and the interactive scientific experiments. The combination of direct telescope observation and supplementary educational activities ensures an enriching experience for all attendees, regardless of their prior knowledge of astronomy.
