In September 2026, Paraguayan band Kchiporros unveiled “Si sale el sol” (If the sun comes out). The new track was created in collaboration with Argentine singer FMK, a figure in Argentina’s contemporary urban music scene. The release marks a meeting of two distinct musical identities, bringing together Kchiporros’ tropical influences and FMK’s modern urban sound.
Kchiporros, formed in Asunción in 2006, is one of Paraguay ‘s most recognised bands. The group combines ska, cumbia, reggae and pop, developing a distinctive sound that has taken Paraguayan music to audiences across Latin America and beyond.
The connection beyond music
The connection between Kchiporros and FMK began long before this song took shape. During his first visit to Paraguay, the Argentine artist was surprised by the warm welcome he received from the local audience, and it was then that he first met the band. The connection quickly went beyond music, and later, they met again in Buenos Aires to share a studio session from which this collaboration was born.
“Once I got to know them, it took on a much greater significance in terms of what it means to make music with people you care about and get on well with,” says the Argentine artist, FMK.
The chemistry between the two projects was immediate. As they themselves describe it, it was a connection that was “super simple, genuine, musical and, above all, fun.”
Exploring new musical horizons
“Si sale el sol” explores reggae, a laid-back music genre that originated in Jamaica. Kchiporros chose the genre deliberately, using it as a bridge between their distinctive tropical sound and FMK’s more song-oriented approach.
The lead vocalist of Kchiporros, Roberto “Chirola” Ruiz Díaz explains the choice: “Reggae is the balm that unites all Latin American music. It never went away, but it is also that lifeblood that runs through and fuses tropical rhythms with Latin America, with that swing and that dance.”
The accompanying music video captures the song’s spirit while highlighting the artistic and cultural connections between Paraguay and Argentina. Through its imagery, the video incorporates elements from both countries. This collaboration holds particular significance for both artists as they embark on new stages of creative exploration. With the release, Kchiporros continues to expand their sound and reach new audiences using music as a space for connection that transcends genres, scenes, and borders.
