This Sunday, May 4th is held the 2nd TF Bachata Competition at the Salon de Eventos Pykasu del Fuente Shopping. It is in San Lorenzo, at the limit of Fernando de la Mora. This event will unite dancers and jurors from everywhere in Latin America.
Bachata
First, what is bachata? It is a dance style that is getting more and more popular. While it comes from Dominican Republic, its spread out everywhere in Latin America. The style of dance invented in the 20th century contains European, African, and Indigenous musical elements. It creates a perfect mix to dance! Bachata is known for its romantic and soulful melodies, featuring guitar-based music with a distinct rhythm that is both danceable and emotionally expressive. The dance itself involves close partner connection, hip movements, and intricate footwork, making it a popular social activity around the world. Over the years, bachata has evolved from traditional, acoustic styles to modern, urban sounds, blending various genres to appeal to a wider audience. Its lyrical focus on love, heartbreak, and longing has helped it become a beloved genre in Latin America and beyond.
While bachata is getting traction in a country like Paraguay, other Latin American styles of dance are gaining visibility and interest in the country. One month ago, Asunción Cumbia was held at the Jockey Club with la Sonora Dinamita being present. It was a sold-out crowd and not everyone was successful in getting a ticket.
