The sixth edition of the Expo Kambuchi will take place from 25 to 27 September 2026 at the Finca Aguayo estate in Tobatí, Cordillera. around 70 kilometres east of Asunción. The Expo Kambuchi 2026 event will feature a special tribute to artisan Daniela González and showcase the work of 40 local creators, including ñai’ũ pottery, wood carvings, and karanday crafts.
A tribute to a Tobatí artisan
This year’s exposition will hold a special moment to honour artisan Daniela González from the San Rafael neighbourhood of Tobatí. The tribute recognises her career and her significant contribution to preserving the traditional knowledge and craft techniques of the community. This acknowledgement aims to celebrate individuals who, through their daily work, keep the local culture alive and pass down skills that are fundamental to Tobatí’s identity.
Tobatí is nationally recognised as Paraguay’s ‘Capital of Craftwork and Ceramics’ due to the abundance of local clay and the generational transfer of artisanal skills. The town is a major producer of handmade crafts that are distributed throughout the country.
The event is supported by the Cordillera Department Governorate, led by Governor Denis Lichi, through its Secretariat of Tourism. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the artisan sector, promote cultural identity, and highlight the attractions and products of the department.
Forty artisans to take centre stage
Over the three-day event, 40 artisans will exhibit and sell their creations. The exhibition will feature 30 artisans specialising in ñai’ũ (a local clay pottery), one of the most iconic expressions of Tobatí’s craft tradition. In addition, ten artisans dedicated to wood carving and work with karanday (a type of palm fibre) will also participate.
The Expo Kambuchi will offer visitors and tourists an opportunity to experience the artisan process up close. They can appreciate traditional techniques and purchase unique pieces directly from the creators themselves.
Craftsmanship, identity and tourism
The Cordillera Governorate has emphasised the importance of supporting such initiatives. These events create commercial spaces for local products and contribute to the growth of cultural and creative tourism. The governor’s office stated that the Expo Kambuchi provides a chance to show that behind every handcrafted piece lies a story, a skill, and an identity that deserves to be valued and promoted.
The Governorate extends an invitation to families, visitors, and tourists to attend this sixth edition and connect with the living culture of Tobatí through its artisans. The event will be held on 25, 26, and 27 September 2026, at the Finca Aguayo estate in Tobatí.
