Casa Clari: Wonderful Restaurant With Incredible View In Asunción

Each week, Tommy-Maurice is going to a different restaurant in Asunción. This week, he has been to Casa Clari, a wonderful restaurant in Asunción city centre.

As a foreigner and potentially a digital nomad thinking of moving here, while visiting Asunción, you are probably going to be walking around what we call the centro, which consists of the old downtown of Paraguay’s capital. There, you will find a lot of restaurants, boutiques, some parks, museums, and governmental buildings. Being here for a new life or just to visit, it is definitely one place you have to go to. Whilst there, one of the best culinary stops you really should visit during your downtown tour is the Casa Clari, a café and bar just in front of the Palacio de López, the most important governmental building in the country! If you go there at sunset, it will be a wonderful experience for your eyes, seeing the sun go down on the Costanera, the river, and the palace!

Casa Clari is a delightful spot that caters to all tastes, offering everything from hearty breakfasts and fresh salads to indulgent platters, crispy fries, pizzas, burgers, pasta, and a wide selection of coffee, juices, drinks, wines, and beers. With such a diverse menu, you will never run out of delicious options! On my visit, I opted for a Caesar salad paired with a jar of their famous pink lemonade – a drink that has become a signature at the restaurant. Everyone I know who has dined there raves about it, and I completely understand why. Refreshing, perfectly balanced between sweet and tangy, and served ice-cold, it was the ideal companion to my meal. The real star, however, was the Caesar salad. Every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh, from the crisp, vibrant romaine lettuce to the tender, juicy chicken seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavour. The bacon added a satisfying crunch and a rich, smoky depth, while the croutons were golden, crisp, and delightfully airy – exactly how they should be. The Parmesan cheese was generously sprinkled, offering a sharp, nutty contrast that tied everything together beautifully. And, of course, the Caesar dressing was spot on. Creamy, tangy, and indulgent without being overpowering, coating every bite in pure deliciousness. I am eager to return with so many tempting choices on the menu, but if you ever find yourself at Casa Clari, this is one dish you absolutely must try! The lemonade and the Caesar salad were perfect for a hot day like this one, and with many more to come, it might be an option for you!

The salad and the lemonade jar cost 90K Guaraníes in total, which is slightly over 11 American dollars or Euros. You will also have the same kind of pricing everywhere around for that specific kind of food. You can pay with cards, but paying by cash is recommended. You can also pay by bank transfer or QR code if you have an account in Paraguay. Casa Clari has multiple seats available inside and outside. The best option is to eat outside, on the terrace, and have an incredible view of the presidential palace. If you are alone, you can go directly, but if you are with a group, you should reserve tables before coming. The employees are very polite and friendly, and at least one speaks English, which is helpful if you are still working on your Spanish. Apart from the view and the food, the restaurant is beautiful and has its charm, being in an old historical building like the other ones around. It sits within the Centro Cultural Manzana de la Rivera, one of the oldest buildings in Asunción, which also houses the Augusto Roa Bastos Library – another must-see destination of your downtown tour!

This great establishment is located in front of the presidential palace on Calle Paraguayo Independiente. It is the same street as Avenida Mariscal López and Avenida España joins it. However, the main entrance of Casa Clari is on the side street, on Calle Ayolas. The latter is a one-way street going toward the rest of the city, meaning you can turn on it from Independiente. Yes, you can drive, but taking Bolt or Uber is better because parking spots are limited. You cannot leave your car on that part of Paraguayo Independiente, as it is protected by members of the army who are also protecting the palace and the president. You can drive on it, but cannot park on it. One option is walking around and going to the restaurant on foot, especially if the weather is cooperating. You would be able to see the old town while eating at a fabulous restaurant of the capital! It is your turn, let’s go!
