Paraguay’s city of Encarnación will host its second edition of the Ironman 70.3 triathlon competition on 11 October 2026. Elite athletes from around the world will compete in an endurance multisport race across various locations in the Itapúa Department. The event will take place in southern Paraguay. By showcasing Paraguay’s natural attractions and modern infrastructure, the competition will also highlight the region to an international audience.
Ironman 70.3 is one of the most competitive international triathlon events in the world. High-performance and amateur triathletes from around the world will compete on a demanding 70.3-mile (113-kilometre) course. The race comprises three disciplines: a 1.18-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 55.92-mile (90 km) cycle, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run. The course aims to ensure that athletes and fans have an experience consistent with the brand’s global reputation.
About the competition
The triathlon competition will feature three disciplines moving through different natural areas of the department. The sequence starts with the swimming segment, which will take place in front of San José Beach in Paraná River waters. Then, the cycling circuit along National Route 1 (PY01), passing through Carmen del Paraná and San Juan del Paraná Districts. For the closing running segment, the Costanera (Waterfront) of Encarnación will act as the final stage, completing a tour through the most breathtaking natural and urban landscapes.
The competion was brought to Paraguay by the world-class sports events company Rebelocity, under an official licence from the global leader in mass-participation sports, The IRONMAN Group. The organisation currently counts hundreds of events held in more than 55 countries, with Paraguay officially joining its international circuit in 2025.

Economic and sporting impact

Through hosting global sporting events, such as October’s Ironman 70.3 in Encarnación, Paraguay aims to strengthen its presence in international sport. The country seeks to establish itself as a new regional destination for high-performance endurance sports. To support this goal, efforts have focused on developing infrastructure while highlighting Paraguay’s characteristic hospitality and natural beauty.
In addition to the sporting impact, a significant economic boost is anticipated for the Itapúa Department. Its capital city, Encarnación (also known as the Pearl of the South), prepares for the arrival of athletes, fans, teams, and staff members from around the world. As a result, demand for accommodation, catering, transport, retail and sports-related services is expected to increase, bringing economic benefits to this welcoming city.
