Eighteen mobile libraries began their journey across Paraguay, bringing reading, play, and learning activities to children across the country. The initiative, part of the Seeds of the Future (Semillas del Futuro) programme, will reach children across Paraguay. The project aims to expand access to early childhood resources by reaching communities that do not have nearby Early Childhood Comprehensive Care Centres (CAIPI).
These mobile libraries (bibliobuses) will travel throughout the country, offering educational and recreational activities focused on promoting reading, creativity, and early learning. The initiative seeks to complement existing early childhood services and provide children in different communities with access to educational resources.
Bringing stories and learning closer to children
First Lady Leticia Ocampos says the idea emerged from experiences with CAIPI, which highlighted the need to reach families living in areas without access to these facilities. “That is why this idea of mobile libraries was created. Each one will bring stories, games, and learning opportunities to share.”
The mobile libraries will travel across Paraguay and offer activities that encourage reading, play, and learning. The programme builds on the work of CAIPI centres. These spaces provide comprehensive early childhood support through educational, recreational, and social activities. One of the materials available will be the trilingual book collection Voices of Our Land (Voces de Nuestra Tierra). The collection includes stories in Spanish, Guaraní, and English, aiming to support early childhood development while promoting Paraguay’s cultural identity.
Expanding access beyond urban areas
The launch reflects broader efforts to decentralise access to childhood development services, particularly for communities that face geographical barriers. The mobile libraries are part of an agreement promoted by Itaipu, with additional infrastructure projects and equipment deliveries expected during 2026 and 2027. The 18 units will travel across Paraguay, bringing books, activities, and learning opportunities closer to children and families.
