Mercado 4 celebrates it’s 82nd birthday

This May 7, 2024, marks the 82nd anniversary of the start of operations of the Municipal Market No. 4 of Asunción, known locally as Mercado 4, the main commercial center of Asunción and surrounding areas.

“The heart of work”, as the mayor of Asunción, Oscar Rodríguez, defined it, celebrates a new year of its foundation. From the capital commune, works are being undertaken to improve the working conditions of the hundreds of permit holders, he said.

“Many people work and many families have their daily bread thanks to this place,” highlighted the mayor. The shopping center has approximately 2,900 permit holders, according to the Market director, Víctor López.

Throughout the month of May there will be special activities in the different spaces of Market 4. This Saturday, May 11, there will be a tourist tour inside the Market organized by the Municipality of Asunción.

Meanwhile, on May 13 and 14 there will be a large fair with an offer of fruit and vegetable products and food.

Market No. 4 – spoken locally as “Mercado Cuatro” – in Asunción brings together thousands of people every day, including permit holders, workers and customers.

In the heart of the shopping center there is also the “Casa Amparo del Niño” School, which has been operating for 44 years providing classes to the children and grandchildren of the center’s workers. Other emblematic spaces correspond to the central dining room, which was recently subject to improvements, as well as the Paseo de los Yuyos, the Paseo de las Flores, the Paseo de la Artesanía and other places where all types of products are sold.
