Paraguay And Poland Launch First Political Consultations

Paraguay and Poland have taken a new step to strengthen diplomatic relations with the first meeting of their Political Consultation Mechanism in Asunción. The meeting brought together senior officials from both countries to formalise a new framework for regular dialogue. Authorities described the initiative as a significant milestone for expanding cooperation and strengthening long-standing ties between the two nations.

Framework for regular dialogue

The meeting was led by Víctor Verdún, Paraguay’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Wojciech Zajączkowski, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. During the discussions, both delegations signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the Political Consultation Mechanism.

The agreement institutionalises dialogue between the foreign ministries of Paraguay and Poland. It also creates a platform for regular consultations on bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues. Officials explained that the mechanism will allow both governments to exchange views more frequently. It will also help coordinate positions on global challenges discussed in international forums.

Cooperation and historic ties highlighted

During the meeting, the delegations reviewed the current state of relations and explored opportunities to expand cooperation. Discussions focused on political dialogue, economic development, and technological collaboration. Both sides highlighted the historic relationship between Paraguay and Poland. This connection has been shaped in part by Polish immigration to Paraguay, which contributed significantly to the country’s social, cultural, and productive development.

Authorities also agreed on the importance of encouraging new initiatives to strengthen bilateral trade and promote investment. Expanding exchanges between citizens of both countries was another priority raised during the discussions. At the end of the meeting, officials welcomed the successful launch of the consultation mechanism. They reaffirmed their commitment to deepening political dialogue and building stronger cooperation between Paraguay and Poland in the coming years.

Meanwhile, Paraguay continues to attract growing international interest beyond diplomacy. According to the National Directorate of Migration of Paraguay, residency applications surged by nearly 80% during the first weeks of 2026. Officials say the figures reinforce Paraguay’s emerging role as a regional migration hub, with demand rising across multiple nationalities and residency categories.
