Asunción residents and visitors can take part in free dance workshops organised by Paraguay’s National Secretariat of Culture. The initiative aims to strengthen cultural spaces and encourage community participation through Paraguayan, Classical, and Contemporary dance classes. Running from 8 to 23 January at the Site of Memory and Cultural Centre 1A Ycuá Bolaños. The programme is open to the public, with some workshops aimed at intermediate and advanced dancers. Participation is free with prior registration.
A diverse programme for different levels
For those interested in traditional culture, the Paraguayan Dance workshop is open to all audiences. The classes take place on Fridays from 12:00 to 14:00. Led by Patricia Romero and Adriana Lugo, the sessions highlight national rhythms and cultural identity, offering an accessible entry point for beginners and curious participants alike.
The Classical Dance workshops take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 09:00 to 10:30. Classes are taught by Diana Ivanauskas and Natasha Larreinegabe. These sessions focus on strengthening technical foundations, posture, and expressive movement, making them suitable for dancers seeking to refine their skills.
Meanwhile, Contemporary Dance classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 to 12:00. Professors Norma Santacruz and Hugo Rojas facilitate the lessons. Participants explore body awareness, creative movement, and modern techniques that encourage experimentation and personal expression. Therefore, both Classical and Contemporary workshops are aimed at intermediate and advanced dancers. At the same time, classes are also for students who wish to deepen their training in a structured environment.
Promoting access to culture and community engagement
According to the National Secretariat of Culture, the programme seeks to bring high-quality artistic training closer to citizens while encouraging the use of public cultural spaces. By offering free workshops, organisers aim to reduce economic barriers and create opportunities for creative development across different age groups and backgrounds.
Interested participants must register in advance. More information and registration details are available through the official online form. With its mix of professional instruction, cultural heritage, and open access, the initiative reflects Asunción’s growing commitment to inclusive cultural programming during the summer season.
