Now this was The Asunción Times Investing In Paraguay Forum #1!
Entrepreneurs and professionals from various backgrounds
The atmosphere at the first Investing in Paraguay Forum was dynamic and optimistic. With a full room of attendees, the event proved that there is strong interest in Paraguay’s investment potential. Entrepreneurs and professionals from various backgrounds gathered to hear from leading voices who have already turned their projects into success stories.
The panel consisted of five entrepreneurs who have either successfully developed investments in Paraguay, or possess extensive knowledge of the country’s business landscape. Their mission was to share practical advice, lessons learned, and insights on how to navigate the process of investing in Paraguay.
“Paraguay offers many advantages”
Markus Amann, an Austrian real estate developer, has left his mark on Paraguay’s urban landscape. A strong believer in Asunción’s potential, he has been instrumental in transforming Asunción’s Villa Morra area, and investing in Nueva Asunción, across the river.
“When I arrived in 2005, it was very difficult for foreigners to invest because they did not know the rules or banking compliance,” Amann said, reflecting on his first years in the country. “Today, it is still challenging, but better. Paraguay offers many advantages: it is far from crisis zones, has very low debt, and one of the lowest tax systems in the world. Come to Paraguay, learn Spanish, understand the culture, the laws, and accounting systems. Once you feel confident, start investing.”

“Every sector open to investment”
Nicolás Sanfurgo, Investment Attraction Specialist at the Viceministry of Investment and Export Network (REDIEX), part of Paraguay’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, also shared his perspective. “Paraguay shows the best growth rates in the region. The government is promoting industry, infrastructure, and exports to enhance competitiveness. The government’s goal is to create quality jobs. Every sector is open to investment, but areas like forestry are particularly accessible for foreigners.”
This was echoed by Jacob, an attendee who visits Paraguay annually to supervise his eucalyptus plantations, and export wood to companies in the United States. “It was easy for me to invest and learn how the Paraguayan system works. Once you get used to it, it is not difficult,” he said.
Diversification of investors
Ale Rachid, a Paraguayan entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Poscontrols and Metrepay, shared his experience in modernising local business management and payment systems. “Paraguay needs a more agile banking system. Bureaucratic issues are being addressed, but there is still room for improvement. Making these processes easier for foreigners will only benefit the economy, provided the right adjustments are made.”
Rachid also celebrated the diversification of investors: “Foreign investment is no longer exclusive to large corporations. Today, we see small entrepreneurs from abroad, which shows that we are moving in the right direction.”
“Paraguay set to grow significantly”
Finally, Manuel Mercy García, Director of IMAP Paraguay, brought his expertise in equity, debt, and acquisition strategies. He pointed out several ongoing projects, such as the Transoceanic Route in Chaco. “Investment in infrastructure, renewable energy, and agriculture is expanding rapidly. Paraguay is set to grow significantly in the coming years,” he said.
However, Mercy García also offered a note of caution: “Entrepreneurs are skilled at selling their business ideas, but obtaining financing remains the most difficult step. Although the country offers excellent opportunities, we must ensure that the conditions for foreign investors are solid and transparent.”

Investing In Paraguay Forum: A successful #1
By the end of Forum, attendees and organisers agreed that the forum had exceeded expectations. Investing in Paraguay Forum #1 was a success, not only for the valuable insights shared, but also for the spirit of collaboration it inspired. Participants left with practical knowledge and a renewed sense of confidence about investing in Paraguay. The diversity of voices – from experienced foreign investors to local innovators – helped create a balanced view of the opportunities, and challenges ahead.
This event, and the upcoming second edition on Monday 10 November, reaffirm what many already sensed: Paraguay is steadily positioning itself as a destination for investment and innovation. The objective of The Asunción Times in this process remains: to keep building bridges between Paraguay and the world of investment.
