Central Bank Of Paraguay President Named World’s Best Central Banker 2025

Carlos Carvallo, Head of the Central Bank of Paraguay, is named the World’s Best Central Banker 2025. The award was given by Global Finance, an international magazine specialised in economy. He was awarded this honour at the Annual Meeting of the World Bank Group (WB). This meeting was part of a larger one organised by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Carvallo’s impact

Carlos Carvallo won the World’s Best Central Banker award in recognition of his management of the institution. In its most recent “Central Banker Report Cards” ranking, Global Finance gave Carvallo an “A” grade. The magazine highlighting his performance in inflation control, monetary policy credibility, and institutional strengthening.

Global Finance also put forward Carvallo’s work in relation to inflation. Paraguayan inflation remained within the target range of 4% in 2024 and closing at 3.8%. Expectations remain anchored, reflecting market confidence in the Central Bank of Paraguay’s leadership. Additionally, the magazine highlighted the decision to reduce the official inflation target to 3.5%. The aim is to achieve it in between 18 and 24 months, consolidating the commitment to price stability.

Global Finance praised the Central Bank of Paraguay prudence in maintaining the monetary policy rate at 6%. This percentage is considered consistent with international conditions and a neutral monetary stance aimed at preserving macroeconomic stability. Furthermore, Paraguayan economy remains among the fastest-growing in Latin America. Global Finance mentioned the investment grade achieved by Paraguay in 2024. This follows the upgrade of its sovereign rating by Moody’s (Baa3).

This award reinforces the international reputation of the Central Bank of Paraguay. Additionally, this award given to Carvallo consolidates the country’s image as a solid, reliable, and predictable economy.
