Paraguay’s Economics Museum Celebrates 25,000 Visitors In Debut Year

Paraguay’s first Economics Museum celebrates its first anniversary in August, 2025, marking its position as a pioneering institution within Paraguay’s cultural and educational spheres. Housed in the historic Palacio Alegre, headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) in Asunción’s historic centre, the museum has emerged as the nation’s first dedicated to economics. Offering an innovative blend of education, and public engagement.

Conceived as more than a mere exhibition space, the Economics Museum serves as a tool for public education and transparency. Its mission is to demystify complex economic concepts, presenting them in clear, accessible language free of technical jargon.

Interactive and historical design

The inaugural exhibition, “Understanding and Valuing Paraguay through its Economy,” launched a dynamic programme of educational activities, temporary exhibitions, and cultural events, all open to the public. The museum aims to foster critical reflection on Paraguay’s economy, and build trust in public policies.

Situated at the intersection of Chile and Palma Streets, the museum combines contemporary museography with interactive digital resources, antique furniture, and original archival documents from the MEF and other state institutions. Its four main sections – Paraguay’s economic history, the current economic landscape, future projections, and an institutional overview of the MEF – offer visitors a comprehensive journey through the nation’s financial evolution. Explanatory panels, thematic display cases, and digital tools ensure an engaging and enriching experience for all.

The museum’s cultural and educational significance was formally declared a site of cultural interest by the National Secretariat of Culture. Its location within the iconic Palacio Alegre enhances its appeal as a tourist destination, further enriching the cultural offerings of Asunción.

Economics Museum: A year of engagement

Since its opening in August 2024, the Economics Museum has welcomed nearly 25,000 visitors. Including students, educators, researchers, and both domestic and international tourists. Beyond its role as an exhibition space, it has become a hub for intellectual exchange, hosting discussions and lectures. Guided tours, available Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00, can be scheduled in advance for organised groups, ensuring accessibility for educational institutions and other visitors. More information van be found on the Economics Museum website.

A lasting legacy

One year after its inception, the Economics Museum stands as a testament to Paraguay’s commitment to fostering economic literacy and cultural engagement. By bridging the gap between complex financial concepts and public understanding, it continues to inspire, and educate.
