A Paraguayan delegation in Finland finalised an agreement with Finnish forestry and agro-industrial machinery manufacturers. The agreement will facilitate the training of young Paraguayans in forestry machinery operation, including an international internship opportunity. The Finnish forestry expertise will add great value to Paraguayan youth, according to Paraguayan President Santiago Peña.
“We celebrate a significant step for technical training in Paraguay: we have signed an agreement with PONSSE and SACI H. Petersen to train 50 forestry machinery operators each year, with full scholarships and training on cutting-edge technology,” President Peña announced.
He explained that the top five students from the first year will undertake an international internship in Uruguay during the harvest season. This will be “a real, on-the-ground experience to take Paraguayan talent to the next level”.
Training simulators in Paraguay
The Paraguayan Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) detailed that these agreements will allow the implementation of training simulators in Paraguay, in partnership with private sector companies, aiming to train between 250 and 300 young people to operate high-tech machinery.
Industry Minister Javier Gimenez commented that young people trained in Paraguay will also have the opportunity to complete their training in Uruguay and Finland, reinforcing the focus on employability, technology transfer, and regional development.
“The goal is clear: to create quality, well-paid jobs with a future. This partnership with Finland marks a new chapter for Paraguay, focusing on training, industrialisation, and sustainability,” the Minister emphasised.
Shaping the future with Finnish forestry expertise
President Peña affirmed that these initiatives are shaping the future of the forestry industry, a sector that holds a prominent place in his official visit to Finland, considering the advancements made by the European country in this area, as well as Paraguay’s potential in the field. Paraguay’s forestry exports have reached historic highs in 2025, particularly in the plywood segment.
“This is development, employment, training, and opportunities for young people.”
The Paraguayan mission in Finland aimed to deepen bilateral cooperation in industrial development, sustainability, digital transformation, and advanced manufacturing.
