The wait is finally over and the 2025 season of football in Paraguay gets underway today in Santísima Trinidad, where Sportivo Trinidense will host Sportivo Ameliano in the first match of the Apertura Tournament of the First Division Cup.
The match will start at 6pm, under the leadership of the main referee Derlis Benítez, with the Martín Torres stadium as the venue and with live broadcast by Tigo Sports.
Both teams will be looking to get off to a good start in the competition and be the main drivers of the championship 2025 season.
In the last game of last season, the Triqui had tied 1-1 against Tacuary, while the V Azulada fell 1-0 against Sol de América.
There will also be football in Itauguá
At the Luis Salinas stadium in the city of Itauguá, Sportivo Luqueño receives Atlético Tembetary, starting at 8:30 p.m., with the main refereeing of David Ojeda.
In its last appearance for the Clausura 2024 championship, the Auriazul lost 1-0 to Olimpia, a tournament in which it collected 26 points, the result of 6 wins, 8 draws and 8 losses.
While their last match last year was for the Paraguay Cup, where they finished third after beating Guaraní 5-4 on penalties, after a goalless draw in regular time.
For its part, one of the youngest teams in the División de Honor, the Rojiverde, comes from being runner-up of the 2024 Intermediate Division with 62 points (19 wins, 5 draws and 6 losses), and in the 2025 season returns to the top category 27 years later, its last foray being in 1997.
