Paraguayan Lars Flaming Claims Silver In Javelin At Major German Event

Paraguay’s Lars Flaming secured a silver medal at the 2026 51st Halpus Werfertage Continental Tour in Halle, Germany. The 23-year-old athlete produced a throw of 81.19 metres in the men’s javelin event. Hussein Ahmed Sameh claimed gold for Qatar with 83.10 metres, while Britain’s Ben East finished third with 80.05 metres. The Halle Continental Tour is considered one of the most prestigious javelin competitions in the world.

The result is further underlining Flaming’s growing presence in international athletics. This marked Lars Flaming’s first podium finish during his training stint in Germany. The distance also placed him close to his personal best of 81.56 metres, achieved at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asunción.

The international rise of Lars Flaming

Born on 27 February 2003, Lars Anthony Flaming is from Filadelfia in Paraguay’s Boquerón Department. He initially competed in multi-event disciplines before specialising in the javelin throw in 2021. Since then, his progress has been consistent. He placed fourth at the 2023 South American Championships in São Paulo before winning gold at the 2024 South American Under-23 Championships in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

In 2025, Flaming set a new Paraguayan Under-23 national record with a throw of 79.74 metre. The Paraguayan athlete later added a bronze medal at the South American Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina, continuing his positive trajectory.

Pan American breakthrough

Lars Flaming reached a major milestone at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asunción. At the event, he won gold in the men’s javelin throw with a personal best of 81.56 metres. The throw established a new Junior Pan American record as well as a new national record for the category. The result also secured his qualification for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. The victory gave Paraguay its third gold medal and 16th medal overall at the competition.

Additionally, he later represented Paraguay at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, further strengthening his international experience.

Flaming’s silver medal performance in Halle now adds another significant achievement to a career that continues to gain momentum on the international stage.
