People Of Asunción #18, Dirk Eisold From Germany: “I Wanted To Experience Paraguay Myself”

People from every corner of the globe are drawn to Asunción, where Paraguay’s laid-back capital has quietly become a melting pot of cultures, ideas, and ambition. Each Tuesday evening from 18:00 to 21:00, digital nomads, expats, and friendly locals come together at the ever-popular English networking event organised by The Asunción Times. Held in a different charming bar or restaurant across the city every week, these gatherings offer the perfect blend of Paraguayan warmth and international energy. In this People of Asunción series, we introduce the inspiring individuals who make this scene so uniquely alive. In #18, Dirk Eisold from Germany.

Meet Dirk Eisold

Dirk Eisold

Dirk Eisold, 51, is originally from Germany and has spent much of his life living in different parts of the world. With experience across several countries, he has developed a lifestyle shaped by movement. Now, he finds himself in Asunción, exploring a new city and its possibilities.

Where are you from?

“I am originally from Germany, but I do not really have one fixed place where I live. I have spent most of my time moving between different countries. Also, I lived in Bulgaria for about a year, and I have residences in Georgia, Turkey, Russia, Mexico, and Panama. I have recently applied for residency here in Paraguay as well”

What are you doing in Paraguay?

“I came mainly because of the residency process, but also because I am working on an international strategy focused on reducing taxes and gaining more personal freedom. There are different ways to structure this, and Paraguay and Panamá have very similar tax systems. I know a lot of people are starting to come here because of that.

At the same time, I wanted to experience the country for myself. I have been to Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and Brazil, but never Paraguay. I enjoy discovering new places, so I was curious to see what life is like here.”

What is your favourite place in Asunción, and why?

“Definitely anywhere with air conditioning,” he laughs. “The heat is intense. But I also really like the cafés here, and the Costanera. It is a great place to watch the sunset. That is probably been my favorite spot so far.“

What is your favourite place outside Asunción, and why?

“I have not had the chance to travel outside Asunción yet, but I am planning to visit Encarnación soon. I have heard a lot about the beaches there.”

What do you love most about Paraguay?

“I would say the meat and the beer, they are both amazing here.”

What do you miss from home?

“To be honest, I do not really miss anything. I am used to moving around all the time, so I do not feel tied to one place.”

If you were to move away tomorrow, what would you absolutely take with you from Paraguay?

“The memories, more than anything. It does not have to be something physical for me. I would just take the experience of being here.”
