With his victory this Sunday in the Rally of Chile Bio Bio, the Paraguayan rally driver Diego Domínguez became the country’s first World Rally Championship (WRC) champion.
Diego Domínguez won the Rally of Chile Bio Bio and took revenge for the 2023 edition, when he was left out in this same race and without the necessary points for first place, having to settle for the runner-up position. This was not the case this year, and Domínguez, with Spanish co-driver Rogelio Penate, achieved a lead of more than four minutes over Eduardo Castro to be the weekend’s winners.
President Santiago Peña celebrated the victory. “Historic, the first Paraguayan to win the FIA WRC3 World Championship! Leaving Paraguay’s name at the top!” the president posted on his social networks.
The 24-year-old Paraguayan driver stands out in the WRC3 category. Two very successful seasons led him to be runner-up, and he is now the first Paraguayan to be champion of a World Rally Championship (WRC).
