Copa Sudamericana: Now Or Never For Paraguayan Teams

This year there are two teams in the Copa Sudamericana: Club Guaraní and Sportivo Luqueño. This is the second-biggest European football cup in the Americas. While not being the Copa Libertadores, it is still important for all the teams involved. If you are doing great in the Sudamericana, it helps to get access to the Libertadores the year after.

Club Guaraní: Bad Game For The Aurinegro In The Copa Sudamericana

The first game of Club Guaraní was played last Tuesday against Boston River, a club based in Uruguay. It finished in a 3-3 tie. Porous play from both teams led to neither winning the game. It was painful to watch for fans from both teams. While the Paraguayan one is 2nd in its division, Boston River is third.

The second Copa Sudamericana game for the Aurinegro is against Nacional Potosí, a club from Bolivia. The game is on Thursday at 9:30 PM. Apart from Club Guaraní, Nacional Potosí, and Boston River, CA Independiente from Argentina is also in the division.

Sportivo Luqueño: A Game To Forget For El Auriazul In The Copa Sudamericana

It was not easier for Sportivo Luqueño. Their first game was played last Wednesday against Grêmio, a club from Brazil. The Auriazul lost 2-1. The arrival of Danish international Martin Brathwaite at the 63rd minute helped the Brazilian club as he scored the winner eight minutes later. A lot of players from Europe have joined teams in Brazil in the last two years, boosting their chance of winning cup like this one. For now, Sportivo Luqueño is third in the division.

The second game of Sportivo Luqueño in the Copa Libertadores is against Godoy Cruz, a club from Argentina. The game will be on Tuesday at 9:30 PM. Apart from Sportivo Luqueño, Godoy Cruz, and Grêmio, Club Atlético Grau from Peru is also in the division.

Weekend Break

While there are no Copa Sudamericana games for them this weekend, they are still playing regular season games. Guaraní is playing against Olimpia on Sunday at 6:15 PM. Sportivo Luqueño is playing tomorrow at 6:15 PM against Club Atlético Tembetary in Recoleta.

While these two are in the Copa Sudamericana, Olimpia, Cerro Porteño, and Libertad are playing in the Copa Libertadores.
