The 2026 edition of Paraguay’s national Guardianes del Patrimonio” (Guardians of Heritage) competition is now underway, until 6 November 2026. The competition invites students aged 7 to 18 across Paraguay to recreate Asunción’s historic sites in Minecraft Education. Through the initiative, young people can learn about the cultural heritage of the capital’s historic centre. Students can register individually or in teams until early November.
Paraguay’s National Secretariat for Tourism (Senatur) launched the project, aiming to raise awareness and appreciation of the Historic Centre of Asunción. As part of the programme, participants attend training sessions, guided tours and educational activities. These experiences bring the capital’s historic sites to life.
Taking part in the competition
Although registrations remain open, training sessions have already started. Students can enroll individually or in teams. Participants compete in different categories according to their age group. Children aged 7 to 11 enter the “Explorers of the Mother of Cities” category. Meanwhile, those aged 12 to 14 join the “Protectors of Asunción’s Legacy” category. Finally, students aged 15 to 18 enter the “Architects of Living Heritage” category.
During “Guardianes del Patrimonio”, participants take guided tours around Asunción’s Historic Centre. They also receive training in Minecraft Education and support with their projects. Once the jury evaluates their work, finalists attend an awards ceremony. The ceremony recognises their efforts and achievements.
Education, technology and tourism combined
The first edition of the competition launched in April 2025. That edition focused on the country’s Jesuit Missions. During the event, 616 teams and over 1,000 children took part. Students recreated historic buildings from these historic sites virtually.
By combining education, technology and tourism, the project promotes cultural heritage. SENATUR has recognised the initiative as being of National Tourist Interest. Additionally, the Ministry of Education and Science (MEC) has recognised it as being of National Educational Interest.
