Traffic on Mariscal López Avenue between the National University of Asunción (UNA) and the San Lorenzo bike path will return to the exit lane toward San Lorenzo, due to the relocation of the construction front, starting this Saturday, March 15.
The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported that this change in road configuration will facilitate uninterrupted travel without lane changes at the university entrance, optimising traffic flow in the area.
Users will have more direct access to San Lorenzo while work progresses on various fronts during the day and night.
MOPC’s Director of Roads, René Peralbo, explained that this first section covers approximately 500 meters from the San Lorenzo stream to the entrance to UNA.
“We completed the installation of the culverts, backfilled the site, implemented the stone base, primed and leveled the site, and completed the curb and gutter,” he explained during his tour of the area.
The asphalt is temporary
In this context, he clarified that the current asphalt on that section is temporary. “A notch can be seen on the curb, marking the end of this temporary pavement.”
The final layer, made with special polymers, will be laid after completing the stretch to the Pinedo Shopping Center, including the corresponding signage, and then continue toward the Curve of Death and Luis Alberto del Paraná Street.
Detour system
The detour plan for access to Asunción remains unchanged. Motorists should travel along Eugenio A. Garay Avenue, turn left on Virgen del Rosario, continue on 5 de Setiembre to the right, go around Dr. Ramón Frizzola, and rejoin Mariscal López via Víctor Cáceres or 26 de Febrero Street.
The comprehensive modernisation of this strategic road requires an investment of Gs 54,087,089,570 and is being executed by Tecnoedil SA under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPC). The project covers 6.3 kilometers between Yberá and Madame Lynch, including a modern stormwater drainage system, complete pavement renovation, and infrastructure improvements.
Road safety
To ensure traffic safety, Highway Patrol officers and the contractor’s flagmen are permanently on duty, supported by a comprehensive signaling system. In case of emergencies, a 24-hour immediate response protocol is available through the numbers +595 (0) 983-326-730 and 55533.
The MOPC said it “reaffirms its dedication to the modernisation of this vital artery for the capital, requesting public support during the execution of the works aimed at improving the road infrastructure in the area.”
