Arena Asunción

Arena Asunción To Open As Paraguay’s First Permanent Large-Scale Events Venue

A new large-scale events venue is set to open on 30 April 2026 on the site of the former Club Tembetary sports ground on Avenida Eusebio Ayala in Asunción. Known as Arena Asunción, the facility in Paraguay’s capital aims to give Paraguay a permanent, professionally equipped space capable of hosting major international concerts, as well as festivals and corporate events.

A gap in Paraguay’s entertainment infrastructure

Large outdoor events in Paraguay have historically relied on temporary installations in spaces not designed for the purpose. Football grounds such as the Defensores del Chaco Stadium, and open grounds such as the Jockey Club, a horse racing facility in Asunción. Each show required organisers to build from scratch: portable toilets, dressing rooms, access controls, barriers, and power generators.

Arena Asunción was conceived to address this directly. The venue offers fixed facilities, permanent bathrooms, and professional dressing rooms. Additionally, food courts, catering areas, and high-capacity power generators. Therefore, eliminating the logistical burden that has long complicated large-scale event production in the country.

Arena Asunción: the site and its scale

The venue occupies a plot on Avenida Eusebio Ayala, one of the main arterial roads running through Asunción. The arena is on the former grounds of Club Tembetary, a local sports club. The site has been redesigned to accommodate events of widely varying sizes. Capacity ranges from 1,500 people for smaller productions up to 28,000 for major concerts or festivals.

The venue also incorporates a modular grandstand system using Layher technology, a German-engineered scaffolding and tribune system widely used at large events internationally, with seating for up to 6,700 people. An aluminium crowd-management barrier system is included to support the safe organisation of large gatherings.

In the short term, the venue plans to add permanent professional sound and lighting systems designed to meet the technical requirements of international touring artists.

The international circuit

Arena Asunción is the product of a consortium of entertainment industry investors and operators, combining local participation with international financing. The stated goal is to place Asunción on the map for major international touring acts. The tour circuit has traditionally bypassed Paraguay in favour of larger regional markets such as Buenos Aires and São Paulo. By offering a venue that meets international technical and logistical standards, organisers hope to make the country a viable stop for international artists.

The venue is also positioned beyond the concert market. Organisers have signalled that the space will be available for corporate events and sporting activities, broadening its potential use and revenue base.

Opening events

The venue will open on 30 April 2026 with El Cumbiazo, a popular cumbia music festival. The following month, on 12 May, the venue will host a concert by Venezuelan-born singer José Luis “El Puma” Rodríguez, a well-known figure across Latin America. These two early events indicate the range of programming the venue intends to attract from its opening weeks.
