Paraguay’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, led by Minister Carlos Giménez, inaugurated a modern strawberry showroom and new commercial space in the Estanzuela community of Itauguá, Central Department, where Paraguay’s ‘Strawberry City’ Aregua is located. The initiative aims to boost commercialisation, add value to local production and strengthen the income of strawberry producers. The facility will begin operations once the strawberry season starts in the area, as cultivation is expected to commence shortly. In 2025, Paraguay’s strawberry season thrived with 5.2 million plants.
The new commercial space was financed by the World Bank, with an investment of ₲997,025,346 (approximately US$166,000). This funding strengthens public investment in rural development and supports efforts to improve market access for family farming producers in Paraguay. The project was built with support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, that made the project possible through the Agricultural Market Integration Project (PIMA).
Direct commercialisation and value-added production
The new strawberry showroom and commercial space will allow the Association of Strawberry and Related Producers of Estanzuela to exhibit and sell their products under the brand “Delicias de Estanzuela”. The model promotes direct sales and seeks to increase the value added to local agricultural production. Authorities highlight that this approach improves income generation by reducing intermediaries and strengthening the identity of locally produced goods.
The facility also includes a children’s playground, transforming the site into a multifunctional space for families and consumers. This reinforces its role as a strategic sales point for one of the most emblematic agricultural products of the Central Department. The project positions Estanzuela as a key node in the strawberry value chain, combining production, commercialisation and community engagement.
Government support for agricultural development
During the new commercial space inauguration, Minister Carlos Giménez emphasised the importance of strengthening family farming organisations through targeted investments. This strategy improves production capacity, open new markets and generate economic opportunities in rural areas.
He highlighted that the new infrastructure reflects the daily effort of farmers in the field and represents a broader public policy aimed at rural development. The Minister also stated that all Paraguayan farmers deserve equal opportunities and reaffirmed government support for the agricultural sector.
