The director of the Yacyretá Binational Entity, Luis Benítez Cuevas, announced today the reopening of the Border Crossing that links the cities of Ayolas (Paraguay) and Ituzaingó (Argentina), on the crest of the Hydroelectric Power Plant of which both countries are co-owners.
“We are happy to announce that this Thursday, November 21, the passage over the crest of the Yacyretá Hydroelectric Power Plant will be reopened, to bring our peoples of Paraguay and Argentina even closer together. It is a dream come true for the people of Ayol and the entire department of Misiones, first of all, and why not say it, for the entire country,” said the director of the EBY.
He added that, by adding a border crossing point between Argentina and Paraguay, the possibility of boosting tourism and making trade more fluid is opening up, especially between the cities of Ayolas and Ituzaingó, which will benefit the population of both localities.
“There were days of talks, of comings and goings, but thank God we reached a good conclusion. I would also like to thank my Argentine counterpart from Yacyretá, comrade Alfonso Peña, who knew how to interpret this clamor of the populations on both banks, and supported this decision that today, with great satisfaction, we are announcing,” he added.
He said that in a few days there will be details about this new transit area that will be open to the public.
The Border Crossing had been opened in 2019, but was suspended again with the border closure that took place after the declaration of the Covid-19 pandemic, a measure that remained in force until now.
The current administration of Yacyretá, Right Bank, began talks with the authorities of Left Bank, and finally an agreement was reached to give this important news, a little less than two months before the end of year festivities.
