Route PY21: Enhancing Paraguay’s Trade with Brazil

Route PY21 is underconstruction, with the aim of reducing logistics costs along with the use of the Puerto Indio jetty, to export soybean, corn and wheat production to Brazil, which will enhance Paraguay’s commercial exchange with the neighboring country.

This will be achieved through the integrated border control area of both countries that operates in Puerto Santa Helena, says the Ministry of Public Works.

Likewise, it will improve the connectivity and accessibility of production, for more than 150,000 inhabitants in its area of influence, including the entire Mbaracayú district.

The execution of the project is the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works, and is financed by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Within this framework, construction work continues on Lot 1 of the Puerto Indio route – Empalme Superhighway, from km 0 to km 27.

Additionally, work to stabilise the base and sub-base are being carried out between kilometers 9 and 12, as well as the improved subgrade; while between km 1.5 and 7 different layers are executed on an embankment seat.

At km 20 work is being done on the construction of bridge number 2, with concrete load in the stirrup and the excavation of bridge 3 for the heads began and the execution of the head structure began. At km 25.4 the construction of the 4 X 4 sewer is carried out at the headwaters and at km 6, Tasks are performed at the head of the 1 X 1 quadruple sewer.

Lot 1 starts at km 0 until km 27 and is managed by the company Benito Roggio e Hijos SA, with the audit done by the Grimaux Consortium – Electroconsult.

Lot 2 goes from km 27 to km 60.3 and is managed by Empresa LT SA, with the audit done by the TYPSA Consortium – All, The “Service Level Road Construction and Maintenance Contract (CCOMA).

The paving and maintenance project for the PY21 route “is for 30 months and its subsequent maintenance, for a period of 60 months”, reports the Ministry of Public Works and Communications.
