The Itaipu Guinness World Record has been confirmed, with the binational hydroelectric plant receiving recognition today from Guinness World Records for having the largest accumulated energy production in the world, over 40 years of operation.
Guinness World Records‘ official adjudicator, Natalia Ramírez, presented the international organisation’s official recognition to the Paraguayan and Brazilian directors of Itaipu.
She said that the recognition was given after an exhaustive analysis of the binational company’s production levels since it began operations.
“We verified the 40 years of operation of this hydroelectric plant. We finally carried out a validation with experts from the Paraguayan Center of Engineers, giving as an official result, as of October 30, 3.038 million MWh of generated energy,” said the representative of Guinness World Records.
“We are the largest hydroelectric power plant in the world,” said the Paraguayan director of Itaipu, Justo Zacarías, highlighting that this is the result of the efforts of Itaipu workers over 50 years.
“This achievement belongs to the thousands of Paraguayan and Brazilian workers who have made it possible for us to be here today receiving this recognition,” he said.
In turn, the Brazilian director of Itaipu, Enio Verri, said that “this is the result of 50 years of hard work and dedication. This plaque is a symbol of the commitment of the workers who built this project that has brought development to both countries.”
