President Santiago Peña at the G20 affirmed that Paraguay is part of the solution to the climate change crisis due to its sustainable production and renewable energy generation during his address at the G20 Summit, which concluded this Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro.
“As a country that has blossomed late in productive development, Paraguay has the advantage of adopting environmentally sustainable models using new methods and technologies,” the President stated, highlighting the opportunities for sustainable production in the nation.
He emphasised that his government is committed to diversifying the energy matrix, incorporating green hydrogen and solar energy while exploring the production of biomass and biofuels to reduce reliance on petroleum-derived products.
The President asserted that Paraguay has already demonstrated that sustainable economic growth is achievable. “We have abundant natural resources, a valuable human capital, and a clear focus on creating value chains that support a fully green economy,” he detailed in his speech.
Paraguay at the G20 Summit
Paraguay participated for the first time as a guest at a G20 Summit. This event gathers Presidents and financial leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies and multilateral organisations.
The head of state emphasised that Paraguay had the opportunity to present its position on the issues discussed during this Leaders’ Summit.
Peña participated in the sessions and met with leaders of credit and trade organisations. He also confirmed Paraguay’s commitment to joining the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, a proposal Brazil made.
