The Minister of Health, María Teresa Barán, has announced that the Coronel Oviedo Hospital, whose authorisation is expected to be before the end of the year, will be the first “of high complexities “highly complex” hospital outside the Central department, and the first in the country to use a 100% digital system.
This will be possible thanks to the implementation of the Health Information System (HIS), which allows the exchange of information between the different health units.
From the beginning of the current administration, the installation of this system in health centers accelerated, reaching 40% of services today. The minister indicated that the implementation of the HIS is a high priority and in less than a year it was installed in 286 hospitals and medical centers, unlike the 217 services where it was installed between 2017 and 2023.
This information system allows the Ministry to have in real time the number of consultations, prescription drugs, active professionals.
“We can have the traceability of the consultations, we can have the traceability of the inputs and the medications and why not say it, probably, For the first time in the history of Paraguay, we will be able to have a real budget of the needs that exist”, Barán said in an interview with Paraguay TV.
This will allow Coronel Oviedo Hospital, one of the large hospitals built by the Government together with Encarnación Hospital, to be 100% digital, without relying on paper-based medical records.
