Circo y Aventuras al Rescate: An Interactive Show To Enjoy With Family

Under the bright lights and the scent of sawdust, a world of wonder unfolds. Circo y Aventuras al Rescate is not just a theatre production, but a journey into the heart of circus life! This fifty-five-minute piece is directed by Santiago Palumbo, an Argentine living in Paraguay, known for his contributions to the arts in the country. The show’s music is produced by David Vila and the choreography by Fabian Ayala Berni. The show is currently presenting its tenth edition in 2025!

Asunción has a pretty vibrant artistic and theatrical scene. Recently, there were three plays, including two musicals, being played in the capital. No Somos Nada, a comedy about life and death, Grease and The History Of Oz, based on the movies.

The story behind Circo y Aventuras al Rescate

Circo y Aventuras al Rescate started when Santiago Palumbo had a vision and presented this idea to his fellow coworker, Carmen Barbieri, an important Argentinian figure in the arts, and was told that it had a lot of potential, talent and that he should keep writing plays for children! After a lot of investing from his savings, his dream became a reality to admire! Eventually, the piece started growing, edition after edition, leading to a big success. It started premiering in different countries like Argentina and Spain.

A circus built by and for children

Some of the cast members of Circo y Aventuras al Rescate, such as Cesar Palencia and Sofia Romberg, joined the play during the pandemic. They explain the show was presented in a drive-in theatre, where the audience would enjoy it from their cars! “It surprises me how the arts can intervene above any adversity,” says Sofia. They mention that the circus life has taught them about the meaning of community and solidarity. “I am not here to just act, sing, and dance, but also to support my family and help them grow,” says Cesar.

They mention that the circus connects with their inner child by simply watching other children experience their first theatrical production and truly dive into the story. “Actors are like kids who never really grew up,” they say. The shows are not just mainly directed by the professionals but by the children too! They are encouraged to release their inner artist on stage and to create their own costumes! “It is a way of how they keep the stage alive,” says Sofia and Cesar. “They are the real experts behind our productions!

More than just a production team

The message behind the “circus family” is one of unity, a call to come together through the power of performance. Circo y Aventuras al Rescate is one of the most emotionally resonant productions. It connects with audiences through dance, music, acting, and comedy. It delivers a message that stays with you, something heartfelt and lasting. Described by Sofia and Cesar as “magical, loving, and educational,” the show is performed by students of Comedia Musical, showcasing talent across all theatrical disciplines, such as singing, dancing, comedy, and drama. The cast hopes that everyone who watches will leave with their hearts touched. They thank you for all your support that in the end, keeps the show alive.

Art is a profession, it deserves time, effort, and true dedication.” – Santiago Palumbo
