New Flights From Asunción Increases Paraguay’s Regional Air Connections

The company Azul Linhas Aéreas made this Monday the inaugural flight between the Campinas Airport (VCP, Sao Paulo) and Silvio Pettirossi (ASU, Asunción), beginning its operations in Paraguay that also include two weekly flights from Asunción to Curitiba and Recife and Florianópolis for the high season.

With this, there are currently 10 airlines operating in Paraguay.

The National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur) and the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC) have promoted agreements and strategic alliances that today connect the country with important international destinations, strengthening the tourism industry with new flights from Asunción.

“Thanks to improved connectivity, Paraguay is showing the world that it is an open, accessible country, ready to welcome tourists from all over the world,” said Tourism Minister Angie Duarte.

Azul’s General Manager of Strategic Planning and Partnerships, Victor Silva, said that today’s flight is the result of almost a year of work, analysis and preparation. He highlighted that tomorrow the inaugural flight from Curitiba to Asunción will take place, and that in this same month of December the seasonal flights from Florianópolis and Recife will be operational.

Silva stressed that expanding the airline’s operations in Paraguay has been an easy decision since the country has shown good economic and social data, creating a good environment for investment.

With 150 destinations and a fleet of 200 aircraft and a team of 16,000 crew members, Azul offers flights from Asunción with connections to many cities in Brazil and an international network that will allow it to reach Curaçao in the Caribbean, Orlando in the United States, and Paris and Lisbon in Europe.

Likewise, with today’s inaugural flight, the Azul Viaje store, the company’s tour operator, and Azul Cargo Express, for the transportation of goods, were opened, which will expand the country’s logistics network.

“We are certain that these new routes proposed by Azul will boost tourism, strengthen economic relations and trade ties, promote exchange, increase productivity and foster innovation,” said Carmen Silva, Director General of Tourism Management at Senatur, at the event held at Silvio Pettirossi Airport.

More flights from Asunción to regional destinations

In response to growing demand, the number of flights from Asunción to Buenos Aires, one of Paraguay’s main tourist and commercial destinations, has been increased by the company JetSmart.

Also noteworthy is the expansion of the national airline Paranair, which has launched new flights from Asunción to Córdoba, Jujuy and Salta, as well as the route to Salto, in Uruguay.

On the other hand, the state airline Boliviana de Aviación (BOA) has started direct flights between Paraguay and Bolivia, which opens new routes to La Paz and Santa Cruz.

New flights from Asunción to Brazil

Azul Linhas Aéreas will operate flights from Asunción to Campinas Airport, the fifth largest in Brazil in terms of passenger volume. It will also add two weekly flights to Curitibia (the first of which will take place on Tuesday, December 3) and flights during the summer high season to Recife and Florianópolis.

The same operation will be carried out by the company Paranair, which by the summer of 2025 will offer flights to Florianópolis, Rio de Janeiro and, finally, to Punta del Este.

“Open skies” with Argentina

In August of this year, the Memorandum of Understanding between Paraguay and Argentina was signed to free up air routes, eliminate the flight limit, and include traffic rights up to the 9th freedom of the air.

This frees up travel frequencies and the possibility of having even more new flights from Asunción, such as the case of Asunción-Córdoba, which was approved days ago by the Argentine Government.
