The Paraguayan Institute of Crafts (IPA) presented the Christmas Nativity Scene Award, an initiative that seeks to strengthen the country’s artisanal production and highlight the cultural and social importance of the Nativity scene as a symbol of the end-of-year festivities. This contest promotes the preservation of local traditions and innovation in artisanal trades.
Participants must submit a three-dimensional Nativity scene of their own creation, which represents at least three central elements: the Baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. The works may be entered into one of the following categories: traditional folk crafts, indigenous art or contemporary crafts, and must be made with materials and techniques recognised by the IPA. These include: ceramics, wood, stone carving, plant fibres, metals and antlers, textiles and leather.
An Evaluation Committee will analyse the nominated Nativity scenes taking into account the technical mastery and quality of the product; heritage and safeguarding, and creativity and innovation.
Interested parties may submit their proposals until November 24. Up to 10 artisans will be selected and will receive a prize of Gs 3,000,000 each, in recognition of their talent and effort. The terms and conditions are available at this link .
The Pesebre Award reaffirms the IPA’s commitment to preserving Paraguay’s cultural heritage, promoting the creativity of artisans and strengthening the country’s cultural identity.
