On Wednesday, October 30, the opening of the Volvo Asunción Fashion Week Spring – Summer 2025 took place with an exclusive fashion show by Paraguayan designer Tanya Maldonado, where she presented a capsule collection inspired by the Dolce Vita .
The event, aimed at special guests, influencers and clients, was held in the designer’s new atelier, where guests were able to experience the process of creating the garments, from the workshop to the catwalk.
The collection is inspired by the city of Milan, with different and elegant silhouettes, representing the feminine. “Art and fashion merge to give a Latin and European essence to their movements,” said Tanya.
The fashion show kicked off the 21st edition of the largest fashion event in Paraguay, the Volvo Asunción Fashion Week, which will take place on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3, at the Gran Hotel del Paraguay. It will feature the presence of an important team of models, stylists and brands from the fashion and trends sector.
This year’s event is the largest ever, with over 50 Paraguayan designers participating alongside fashion designers from around the world, as well as more than 3,000 participants in total, including the models and audience members.
The Asunción Times spoke with Hugo Vasquez, the Director of Asunción Fashion Week, about what it means to the fashionistas of Asunción, and how times have changed since Asunción Fashion Week was first held, decades ago.
“The people, the designers – the designers of Paraguay are really good now, it was a little different 21 years ago, and the people of Paraguay love the fashion now, that was different like ten years ago, so that’s the most beautiful thing.”
“Asunción Fashion Week is now quite international, a lot of Paraguayan designers have international experience now. This year, I think the difference is that more of the Paraguayan designers have experience at the highest level, international shows like New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and they are back in Paraguay participating at Asunción Fashion Week. It’s going to be really interesting.”
“So it’s the people, the designers, the models, the shows… each year we get a little more international. The Paraguayan models are really nice, really beautiful, and the level of the models from Paraguay is really high now, it’s like, wow. Really good now. And it’s a big industry now in Paraguay. Twenty years ago – no. It was a hobby. But now, we can really live with fashion, all of us.”
As for how young Paraguayans can enter the Paraguayan fashion industry, Hugo was clear: “Study, study, study! Of course it helps if you can join an agency, but you need to study, you need to work a lot, that’s the way.”
Asunción Fashion Week is presented by Volvo, with the support of Logitex; it will feature activations and the presence of important brands at the event: Stabilo, Keyroad, Guess, Aperol, Therma, Dr Lemon, Ron Residentas, Lavazza, Bodega Undurraga, Fortín and El Mercadillo.
