At the Family Farming Fair this Tuesday at Paseo 1811, in Mariscal Estigarribia and Tte. Ettiene, in the city of Fernando de la Mora in the Greater Asunción area, small producers from Central and Lower Chaco are offering their products directly, without intermediaries.
This unique opportunity to buy directly from the producers is a key feature of the fair, and it’s a great way to support rural families. The fair runs from 7:00am until stock is exhausted.
It is promoted by the government of Paraguay through technical units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, within the framework of the public-private partnership, favouring the development and dynamism of the productivity of rural families in the country, and is one of many “Family Farming Fairs” across the country.
This one benefits 33 rural families from the Central and Lower Chaco. The citizens of Fernandina and surrounding areas will have access to fresh quality products such as Paraguayan cheese, pork, homemade chicken and homemade eggs; as well as corn, corn flour, red beans, honey, peanuts, peky butter beans and habilla.
Also, starch, tomato, bell pepper, cassava, sweet potato, green vegetables, seasonal fruits, grains, a variety of typical and traditional foods, handicrafts, flowers and plants, among other products.
The Government of Paraguay is pushing hard to provide opportunities for rural farmers to connect directly with the retail customers in urban areas, and these “Family Farming Fairs” are a key driver of success.
So far, over the last twelve months, nearly 4,500 of these fairs have been held, benefiting at least 6,000 different rural families, and generating sales of more than Gs 55 billion (just over US$7 million).
If you haven’t visited one yet – you should! It’s a great way to support the rural economy, as well as get hold of fresh quality produce directly from the farmers growing it.
