Changing of the Guard at the Panteón de los Héroes

Every Saturday morning the honour guard at the Panteón Nacional de los Héroes is relieved in a formal ceremony on the steps, in full dress uniform, right in the middle of the historic centre.

This is a genuine piece of national ritual rather than something staged for visitors, and there is not a word of Spanish to follow, so it works for everyone. It costs nothing and there is nothing to book.

The Panteón stands on Plaza de los Héroes, at the corner of Palma and Chile. Arrive a few minutes before ten. You are then a short stroll from Calle Palma, where the Feria Palmear usually opens at eleven.
