From Britpop To Harry Potter: British Week 2026 Brings UK Culture To Paraguay

British Week Paraguay returns from 15 to 23 August 2026, bringing a programme of cultural, educational, musical and community events to Asunción and beyond. Organised by the British Embassy in Paraguay, the 2026 edition marks 10 years of British Week in the country. The programme includes film screenings, live music, food demonstrations, talks, sporting events and activities celebrating the connections between Paraguay and the United Kingdom.

While several activities require prior registration or have limited capacity, many are free to attend. One event, the Triumph ride to Nueva Londres, is invitation-only.

Music, history and British traditions

The programme begins on Saturday 15 August with a historical talk exploring lesser-known connections between Britain and Paraguay. At 11:30, historian Guillaume Candela, PhD, from Cardiff University, will present “Mujeres, corsarias, frailes y líderes guaraníes: historias desconocidas de las Islas Británicas al Paraguay en el siglo XVI”. The event will explore encounters and connections between the British Isles and Paraguay during the 16th century. Later that day, British music will take over Feria Palmear at 15:30, with a celebration of music from the United Kingdom.

On Monday 17 August, British cuisine will be in the spotlight. Chef Jorge Iriberri will host a live cooking demonstration featuring one of Britain’s best-known dishes, fish and chips, at Casa Rica Molas López at 11:00. Children and families can also enjoy a reading session featuring Paddington at BOOKS, Mariscal López Shopping, at 17:30.

On Tuesday 18 August, literature lovers can join a virtual tour of Jane Austen’s House Museum at 12:00. The session will be held in English and has limited spaces.

From Harry Potter to Britpop

Film and music take centre stage later in the week. On Thursday 20 August, Cinemark Paseo La Galería will screen Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone at 18:30. The screening is free but requires registration.

That evening, Oasis fans can head to Sacramento Brewing Co. at 21:00 for a free tribute concert celebrating the iconic British band. The event is for audiences aged 18 and over.

Britpop continues on Friday 21 August, with another free concert at Sacramento Brewing Co. at 21:00. For football fans, a Premier League watch party will take place at La Cabra Sport Bar at 16:00, showing Arsenal vs Coventry.

A British ride to Nueva Londres

The Triumph Ride to Nueva Londres also returns this year, following the route featured in last year’s British Week programme. The Triumph Ride to Nueva Londres on Saturday 22 August will depart at 11:00 from Autopista Silvio Pettirossi and head towards Nueva Londres. The event forms part of the wider British Week programme and highlights the connections between British brands and Paraguayan communities.

The week concludes with British Night at Palo Santo Brewing Co. at 19:00, featuring a concert by Madera Noruega. With activities ranging from history and literature to cinema, music, food and motorsport, British Week 2026 offers several ways to experience British culture in Paraguay.
