Teletón’s La Comilona Receives Recognition Ahead Of First U.S. Edition

Teletón’s La Comilona, a charity food festival, has been awarded the Paraguay Country Brand (Marca País Paraguay) licence as the organisation prepares to hold the event outside the country for the first time. On Sunday, 26 July 2026, the festival will take place in Queens, New York, from 10:00. The inaugural international edition will extend one of Paraguay’s longest-running fundraising traditions to the Paraguayan community in the United States.

The distinction was granted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) through the Investment and Export Network (REDIEX). The programme recognises initiatives that promote Paraguay’s identity, culture, and values while contributing to the country’s international image.

More than four decades of solidarity

In the last decades, La Comilona has combined Paraguayan gastronomy with fundraising to support Teletón’s rehabilitation services for children with physical disabilities. Each edition brings together restaurants, volunteers, artists, and thousands of visitors, making it one of Paraguay’s most recognised charity events. Receiving the Paraguay Country Brand licence acknowledges the festival’s social impact. Traditional cuisine, local hospitality, and community participation have become defining features of the event.

Organisers say the event on 26 July, in New York, will welcome members of the Paraguayan and wider Latin American communities for a day of traditional food, barbecues, desserts, live music, and family activities. Funds raised will support the free rehabilitation services that Teletón provides to families across Paraguay. Interest has already extended beyond New York.

Expanding the mission abroad

The New York gathering forms part of a broader programme of fundraising activities organised by Teletón support committees across the US. The next event is scheduled for 2 August 2026, when the Teletón Paraguay–Florida Committee will host a charity lunch at Patrizia’s Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. The event aims to bring together Paraguayans living in Florida while raising additional funds for rehabilitation programmes in Paraguay. Later, on 12 September 2026, supporters in the US capital will organise The Big Party Washington D.C. This will be another initiative designed to strengthen the network of Paraguayans and Latin Americans supporting the foundation’s work.

Teletón encourages Paraguayans and supporters abroad to participate in the upcoming events. Every meal purchased contributes directly to providing free care for children and teenagers receiving treatment through the foundation’s rehabilitation centres.
