The Centro Cultural del Puerto in Asunción is once again becoming a vibrant meeting point for music lovers. The National Orchestra of Popular Music (ONAMP) continues its 2026 season of the concert series El Puerto Suena. Promoted by the National Secretariat of Culture, the cycle has become one of the capital’s most consistent free cultural offerings. The concert is designed to bring Paraguayan music closer to the public in an accessible and open setting.
New date brings El Puerto Suena back to the Port
Following an initial performance held earlier in the month, the series returns with a new concert. The concert is scheduled for Friday, 17 April at 20:00 in the Port Cultural Centre’s auditorium. Admission is free, but audiences are encouraged to arrive early. Previous editions have attracted strong attendance from residents, students, and visitors.
Under the direction of Maestro Luis Álvarez, ONAMP presents a programme rooted in Paraguay’s rich popular musical tradition. The series also explores contemporary orchestral arrangements. The ensemble was created to promote and preserve national musical heritage. At the same time, El Puerto Suena concerts have played a central role in revitalising interest in traditional repertoire.
A living celebration of Paraguayan musical identity
Recent editions of the cycle have featured well-known works from the Paraguayan songbook, including pieces such as Alma y violín, Gallito cantor, and Danza paraguaya, alongside guest soloists from within the orchestra. These performances highlight the diversity of styles that define the country’s musical identity, from traditional polkas to more contemporary interpretations. With each edition, El Puerto Suena reinforces Asunción’s growing reputation as a regional centre for accessible, high-quality live music, while celebrating the enduring value of Paraguayan musical heritage.
